## **What Happens If GEO and AEO Are Not Implemented Together? An Analysis with Real Data**

\nThese two strategies reinforce each other. Implementing one without the other is both possible and common, but in practice it leaves significant gaps.

\n

\nWhat happens if only [AEO](https://www.pixenon.com.tr/category/aeo/) is implemented? Visibility is gained in Google AI Overviews, voice search, and featured snippets. Content structure is optimized, schema markup is implemented, and question-and-answer format is applied.

\n

\nBut this work is largely done for the Google ecosystem. The broader authority building required for visibility on ChatGPT, Perplexity, and other independent artificial intelligence platforms remains missing.

\n

\nWhat happens if only GEO is implemented? Authority building is done on independent artificial intelligence platforms, brand mentions are increased in independent sources, and content is distributed across the web. But because no structural optimization specific to Google AI Overviews is done, a gap remains on this massive platform. 93.67 percent of the sources shown in Google AI Overviews come from Google’s top 10 organic results, and this rate shows that an AEO and SEO foundation is essential.

\n

\nWhat do we see with real data? When we compare platform dynamics, the following picture emerges.

\n

\nFor Google AI Overviews, the combination of [SEO](https://tr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arama_motoru_optimizasyonu) and AEO is the primary condition. Appearing on this platform without an organic ranking is nearly impossible because the system mainly selects sources from the top results of its own search index.

\n

\nThe situation is different for Perplexity. This platform can make source selections independent of organic ranking. Content quality, recency, and authority signals are decisive. In other words, a brand that only does AEO and does not do GEO may appear in Google AI Overviews but may not appear in Perplexity.

\n

\nFor ChatGPT, both training data and real-time search are important. In terms of training data, the accumulation of brand mentions across the web is decisive. This is the subject of long-term GEO work. For real-time search, Bing indexing and content structure come to the fore, and this overlaps with AEO.

\n

\nMicrosoft Copilot emphasizes LinkedIn in B2B queries. This requires platform-specific attention. Active content production and brand presence on LinkedIn directly affect GEO visibility on this platform.

\n

\nIntegrating the two strategies can be managed in practice with a single content program. Because the shared requirements for both strategies are numerous: a clear question-and-answer structure, schema markup, sourced claims, bot access, and up-to-date content. In addition to this common ground, what GEO additionally requires is a broader presence in independent sources, entity building, and breadth of coverage.

\n

\nInstead of separate teams and separate budgets, focusing with an integrated perspective on the question “how should this content be structured to work for both artificial intelligence and traditional search” is far more efficient.
